‘The Chase’ crew talks cut autos, baseball prospects and more

Another Friday in the books for “The Chase,” as we head into Labor Day weekend. Today we had no guests, but it was an action packed show with a ton of noteworthy topics and discussions revolving around the hobby. And, of course, we wrapped up the week with a box rip of 2020-21 Clear Cut Hockey.

First off, the man, the myth, the legend of the WWE Hulk Hogan recently had one his cards sell for over $51,000.

A PSA gem mint 10 Hulk Hogan card from the 1982 New Japan Pro Wrestling Cosmos set, set a new all time record high price for the pro wrestling card hobby. This PSA 10 NJPW card reportedly sold years ago for $997 on eBay. The card features a photo of Hogan from the 1982 New Japan Cosmos event.

PSA said they were originally issued through vending machines, measure 1.5 by 2.5, and have slightly rounded corners. There are six different cards known from this set including Ric Flair, Antonio Inoki, and Tiger Mask.

Next, Troy and I seen a tweet from PSA that asked, “You can have a cut auto of any historic figure. Who are you wanting the auto of?”

This sparked our curiosity and we both came up with some answers. I said Abraham Lincoln and Bob Feller as a couple, while Troy said Bon Scott and Prince.

The curiosity continued and we took into the office to see everyone else’s opinions on the matter.

This past week in baseball, two of the top prospects in the game were called up to their respective teams. Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles and Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks were both organizations’ respective top prospects. The two got off to hot starts, as Carroll amassed four hits and five RBIs in three games, while Henderson is three for his first eight at bats, including a home run as his first hit.

The two have gained some hype over time on the Bowman market, and both players seen rise in sales on the days they were called up. The hot start has only kept their values booming.

We both said, it could be interesting to see if the teams they play for affect their values moving forward. Carroll is at a slight disadvantage in Arizona, while Henderson is with the come up Orioles.

One thing to remember is, some top prospects may start hot, but even out as their time in the game continues. Guys like Aaron Judge and Mike Trout were highly touted prospects that didn’t get off to the hottest starts and actually got sent back down for some time. They turned out pretty darn good. So the biggest tip: be patient with the young and coming guys.

Next, we had some fun in the office with the start of football season around the corner. Check out how we did with an all-time NFL roster.

And last but not least, we had our box rip of the 20-21 Clear Cut Hockey. Troy won this rip with a UD Canvas auto out of 21 of Jason Robertson from the Dallas Stars. I also pulled an Alexander Barabanov auto from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
