Sotheby’s and Fanatics Team Up For Fanatics Collect, Jackson Holliday Pays Tribute To Billy Ripkin, Joey Chestnut Immortalized In Leaf Trading Card

Sotheby’s and Fanatics announced yesterday that the two companies are teaming up for Fanatics Collect, a high-end collectibles marketplace launching later this summer. The partnership will host virtual and in-person auctions featuring rare sports cards with a minimum value of $100,000. The inaugural live auction is slated for this coming September, where one lucky collector will outbid the rest for a 1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson card (PSA 8). This also marks the end of PWCC, as all offerings of the former auction company will now exist under the Fanatics Collect name.

Jackson Holliday Pays Tribute To Billy Ripkin

Today marks the release of Topps Series 2 Baseball, which has drawn much attention for the unique inserts and autographs in the set. Some of these include the First Pitch Autographs (featuring the likes of Victor Wembanyama, CJ Stroud, and Daddy Yankee), the Women in Baseball short prints (showcasing Alyssa Naken, Jessica Mendoza, and other women from the sport), and the “Signature Tunes” cards, featuring players and the artists behind their walk-up songs.

But there’s another short print – one that draws from one of the most iconic baseball cards of all time. Orioles prospect Jackson Holliday has one that pays homage to Billy Ripkin’s famous “F*** Face” card, with a lighter “Fun Face” inscription on his bat knob. We’re barely half a day into the official release of Series 2, but we’ve already seen some of these cards sell on eBay for up to $750.

Joey Chestnut Immortalized In Leaf Trading Card

America and the sports world were shaken to their core on Tuesday. Nathan’s Famous announced that Joey Chestnut is banned from competing in the annual hot dog eating contest on July 4th, following his endorsement of a vegetarian hot dog. In one of the most predictable moves ever, Leaf was right on the pulse and released a SUPER limited edition Joey Chestnut “BANNED” autograph, which sold out in less than 24 hours. Were you one of the lucky few who got their hands on one of these limited edition autos?
