Panini announced on Monday that they have signed an exclusive trading card agreement with The University of Oregon. The deal was negotiated by the licensing agency Fermata Partners, which recently acquired a licensing agreement with the university.
Oregon is one of the more than 225 schools that have signed exclusive deals with Panini in recent months. Many of schools were previously affiliated with the Collegiate Licensing Company, which has an exclusive deal with Upper Deck that is close to expiring.
“As the College Football Playoff nears, we are excited to announce the University of Oregon as an exclusive Panini partner. The Ducks have such a dynamic brand and we look forward to representing that and producing compelling trading card products for Oregon fans and all college sports fans,” said Mark Warsop, Panini America CEO in a company press release.
“Panini’s strong commitment to distribution and marketing coupled with their ability to producing compelling trading card products for their partners make them an ideal partner to work with the University of Oregon,” said Matt Dyste, the University’s Director of Marketing & Brand Management. “We look forward to working with Panini to help continue to expand the University of Oregon brand on a national level and within the trading card category.”
This comes as a timely score for Panini with Oregon Ducks quarterback, Marcus Mariota, winning the Heisman Trophy this past weekend. Mariota will likely be featured prominently in Panini football products when he makes the jump to the NFL.
