The Monthly Elite Auctions on Goldin.com bring some of the rarest and most unique pieces of sports memorabilia to the forefront of the collectibles industry. We recently learned that the 1/1 Gold (non-autograph) Topps Now Parallel of Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry would be in this month’s auction, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Check out 5 of (what I believe to be) the most exciting items available in Goldin’s September Elite.
We talked about all of these items on The Chase today! Go to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, or wherever you get your shows to listen! And get in on our $500 dacardworld.com before we reach 1,000 YouTube Subscribers! Just subscribe to our Channel and like/comment on this video!
2024 Topps Now Olympic Gold #26 Stephen Curry/LeBron James/Kevin Durant (#1/1) – Topps Encased
Andy and Andrew Zonneveld, a father-son duo from Fresno, California, pulled this card. Geoff Wilson of Sports Cards HQ, who currently has a bounty out on the 1/1 autograph version of this card, reached out to them, offering $25,000 for the card. Instead of selling it for an immediate payout, the Zonnevelds consigned it through Goldin Auctions. The card sits at $17,000 with 12 days remaining in the auction. Do you think they made the right decision?
March 1, 2003 – LeBron James Signed Police Ticket – JSA LOA
This listing has Darren Rovell written all over it. While driving the infamous Hummer H2, which sparked his first real controversy, Akron Police pulled over Lebron for not having a rear license plate. His temporary tag was lying on the vehicle’s dashboard. The citation wasn’t controversial here, though. People speculated that this car was illegally gifted to him, but an investigation determined that his mom took out a $50,000 loan and used some of that to purchase the vehicle. The future GOAT was suspended for two games while the investigation occurred but proceeded to lead St. Vincent-St. Mary’s team went to a state championship.
2023 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs SuperFractor #CDA-PS Paul Skenes Signed Rookie Card (#1/1) – PSA NM 7, PSA/DNA GEM MT 10
Being a Paul Skenes 1/1 Superfractor Autograph, this card obviously deserves mention in this blog. But the most intriguing part about this card isn’t even the player; it’s the fact that it was literally just sold on Goldin on June 1st for $80,520. Now, a mere 107 days later, the All-Star Game Starting Pitcher’sPitcher’s holy grail is back up for grabs. With 12 days left to bid, the highest bid is $36,000. We might just witness one of the quickest, most high-profile flips in Hobby history come September 28th.
2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket Autograph #144 Tom Brady Signed Rookie Card (#077/100) – BGS NM-MT 8, Beckett 10
Tom Brady’s card market is currently the 7th strongest per Ludex, after being below 150th last week. The all-time great’s (sigh) sudden rise isn’t a result of his color commentary. It’s fueled by rumors that he could possibly come out of retirement to play for the Miami Dolphins, with Tua Tagovailoa out for the foreseeable future. Their signing of former Ravens Pro-Bowler Tyler Huntley puts some water on that, but The Hobby likely won’t care!
This card could go for more than expected purely due to that speculation, but conversely, this wasn’t designed to be an auto. Brady signed this parallel after it was pulled from 2000 Playoff Contenders, committing what some see as a Hobby cardinal sin. What’s your opinion on athletes signing cards that weren’t intended to be signed? And what do you think this could sell for?
