Topps is expanding their MLS offerings this year with the 2015 Apex Soccer. This set has a more creative card design that is familiar to collectors of Topps Inception or Topps Fire Football. Hobby boxes will come with two autographs.
The base set for 2015 Topps Apex Soccer features 100 of the best and brightest from the MLS, including rookies David Villa, Frank Lampard and Mix Diskerud. Base cards have four levels of numbered parallels (Gold, hobby only Orange #’d to 25, Red #’d to 5, Black #’d 1/1) plus one-0f-one printing plates.
Autograph cards include signed versions of the base cards. Base autograph parallels are identical in color and quantity as the unsigned ones. Dual autographs are also available, including Now and Then Dual Autos with former MLS stars paired with players from today. Dual autos have Red parallel version numbered to five and one-of-one Black parallels.
Match Day Die-Cut Autograph Relic is a special case hit that has a swatch of a game-used soccer ball in addition to a player autograph. Look for Red and Black numbered parallels of these unique relic autos.
Hobby boxes of Apex Soccer will come with a numbered Crest Jumbo Relic. The jumbo-sized relic piece is cut to fit into the newly designed MLS logo, which is a nice touch. Parallel versions include Gold, Orange (#’d to 25), Red Patch featuring game-used jersey patch (#’d to 5) and Black Adidas with an Adidas logo patch from a game-worn jersey (#’d to 1/1). One-of-0ne printing plates will also include a patch relic.
Dual Relics are also available with swatches from two players. All cards are numbered including parallels and printing plates.
Inserts for Apex Soccer include Captains, which highlights the team captains of each MLS team. Alliances feature top teammate tandem from around the league. There is also a limited amount of Base Card Short Prints of players that weren’t a part of the base set. All three sets feature four levels of numbered parallels and printing plates.
