Upper Deck’s second wave of their core hockey product is due out this February with a new batch of players. 2014-15 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey will feature some of the top prospects that were missed in Series 1, including Jonathan Drouin of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Andre Burakovsky of the Washington Capitals.
Series 2 contains 200 new base cards of veteran players not in the first half of the set plus up to 50 new Young Guns cards of the top rookies. Look for Exclusives (#’d to 100) and High Gloss (#’d to 10) parallels as well as Young Guns Printing Plates (#’d 1/1)
Upper Deck also has a new batch of 90 UD Canvas cards featuring regular, Young Guns, Team Canada Program of Excellence and Retired Stars versions. O-Pee-Chee cards have also been updated with Rookies, Red Border and Retro parallels. There is also a chance of finding autographed versions of the O-Pee-Chee cards.
Memorabilia cards fall two per box in Series 2 Hockey. Look for Rookie Materials and UD Game Jersey cards in most boxes, including numbered patch versions. 500 Goal Club and 1,000 Point Club jersey cards are harder to find. Numbered autograph versions of the 500 Goal (#’d to 25) and 1,000 Point (#’d to 10) Club Jersey cards are available as well.
As part of their on-going 25th anniversary celebration Upper Deck has included High Series Buyback cards from the original 1990-91 Hockey set. Buyback cards are hard signed and hand-numbered to 25. Look for more autographs with UD Signatures cards.
2014-15 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey has a brand new insert set called UD Portraits. Portrait cards are broken into three varieties, Veterans, Legends and Rookies. These also have two levels of parallels: Gold (Veterans & Legends #’d to 25, Rookies #’d to 99) and Platinum Blue (Veterans & Legends #’d to 5, Rookies #’d to 25).
The classic Hockey Heroes set features stars from the current decade with two cards per box. Be sure to look for the hard to find Header and Art cards from this set. Upper Deck has also hidden one Rookie Breakouts acetate card per case.
