At Dave & Adam’s we rarely comment on happenings in and around the industry but the circumstances surrounding the 2016 Panini Prizm Dak Prescott autopen situation has become mainstream news so we wanted to make our thoughts known.
Dak Prescott had a contract to personally sign these cards, but either he or his representatives chose to use an autopen machine instead. In by doing so it is our opinion that they defrauded Panini.
We also understand that Panini, and the other manufacturers, are not perfect. However we feel in this particular instance they are not at fault from the President down to the least tenured customer service worker. Nobody at Panini could have ever, EVER thought it was possible that an athlete would use an autopen machine in this day and age.
Thankfully, not many of the affected cards have made their way to the secondary market. A limited number of Pink and Gold Vinyl parallels along with a few dual-signed cards are the ones drawing attention.
We wish Panini the best of luck in resolving this difficult situation.
Update: Please see Panini’s statement on their website blog for additional information.

Feel like this is showing good support of Panini. We also have to recognize the fact that someone, maybe Dak, maybe not, but someone short changed the people that support Dak and the Cowboys. We can’t let Dak off the hook and string Panini on instead, the man has a contract to sign for Panini, if that is the contract, he should honor that. Panini isn’t getting burnt, Dak isn’t getting burnt, it’s the fans of his, from young to old, who find joy in holding onto something that is autographed by him, just stinks that some poor kid has to “send” his card back because Dak or his staff couldn’t fit it into his schedule to sign 🙁
Well said. Most people are using this to pile on Panini but they are victims of this just as much as the collectors are, in fact moreso because they have the expense of correcting the issue.
