Return of Wander Franco’s 1st Home Run Ball
Tampa Bay Rays’ Fan, Ryan Hoefling, caught Wander Franco’s first home run ball, but decided to give it back to him following the game. By returning the ball, the 15-year-old passed up on an estimated payday of over $25,000 (had the ball gone to auction.) We love a feel-good story, nice work Ryan…but we aren’t sure how many collectors would agree with it.
SP Authentic Golf is back
Big news for golf fans. Upper Deck announced that after an increased demand for golf trading cards, they will be releasing SP Authentic Golf. Collectors will have an opportunity to get a variety of autograph and memorabilia cards from today’s top talent and legendary names. It’s set to hit store shelves later this summer.
MLB All-Star Auction Headliners Announced
The MLB All-Star auction is stacked with vintage memorabilia dating back all the way to 1908. One of the lead pieces is a 1933 Babe Ruth bat rated GU 8 by PSA/DNA.You’re going to want to get your wallet out for this one because the pre-sale estimate for the bat sits at $75,000-$125,000.
Topps Sales Numbers Grow
Topps’ trading card sales were up an impressive 101.7% compared to the same period in 2020. In total, Topps’ net sales increased by $59.3 million during the 13-week quarter. They attribute the increase to e-commerce sales, higher freight costs and a higher cost of Confections products.
Pokemon Drops Big Announcement
Pokemon continues it’s 25th anniversary festivities and announced a new set of Pokemon trading cards called ‘Celebrations.’ The set is designed to celebrate some of Pokemons greatest moments and will highlight 25 remakes of classic cards from previous years. If you’re still chasing that base set Charizard, this may be your chance to get a 25th anniversary Charizard!
Suspicious Bidding Behavior for Rare Yu-Gi-Oh Card
Uh Oh..the Chinese court cancelled an auction for a rare Yu-Gi-Oh card after malicious behavior was suspected. The card in question, a Blue-Eyes White Dragon, is currently valued at $31,000-$46,000, so when the bidding reached a shocking $13.4 million the auctioneers knew something was up. As a result, the auction was suspended with suspicion of foul play.
