My favorite player of all-time is Steve Sax. I grew up a Dodgers fan and Steve was the kind of low power/high average scrappy infielder I envisioned myself becoming one day. It didn’t work out and Steve’s days as a Dodger were numbered, but I’ll always remember the poster I used to have on my wall with Sax in front of a ZZ Top-esque hot rod that my teacher sold me for three bucks!

With appologies to Grady Sizemore, I have to pick Ernie Camacho. I loved him as a kid. It didn’t matter that Macho Camacho wasn’t any good.

It’s strange, the more that I learned about the deep-dark statistical world of baseball, the fewer favourite players I had. It’s almost to the point where I no longer have favourite players, just players that I respect as ball players.

With that said, It’s gotta be Brian Bannister. I’ve never been a fan of his game, but he digs statistical analysis and photography: two of my favourite things.

Jose Guillen quickly took over the number two spot after ripping his own toe-nail out, and just generally being bat-shit crazy. He’s definitely got a Ron Artest quality to him.

  95. SAKET Mehta May 22, 2009 at 12:43 pm #

Mine is defiantly Ken Griffey Jr. Especially hearing after all those players that took roids, Griff is the only in this decade to come clean and hit his hrs by working out and not roiding. He is also a very stand up guy. I had the chance to meet him, and he is so polite and friendly, unlike some players nowadays being cocky.

Babe Ruth hands down. The guy supposedly hit a home run that went under a pitchers legs during his follow through. But if we are going with favorite player we’ve ever seen, gotta go with Barry Larkin. Played each year of his career with my favorite team, played the game the right way, and was a true pro. If Ozzie wasn’t around BLark would have 10 gold gloves and would be a lock for the HOF.

Of former players, Nolan Ryan — he was so hard to hit.

Of current players, David Ortiz — no other player makes his teammates look like little kids so often, celebrating after a walk-off hit. (I know this year is tough for him so far, but he will rebound.)

My favorite baseball player of all time is Babe Ruth. He could do it all, he could hit homers, he was a constant .300 hitter (one time hitting .393), he could pitch, and he could field. Ruth was also a good guy. But the most important thing about Babe Ruth was that he made baseball popular, He brought fans and money which made baseball bigger and better. Without him who knows where baseball would be today. That’s why I love Babe Ruth.

My favorite baseball player is Jackie Robinson because he is a good player and he on my favorite team, the L.A Dodgers. I would love to see him in real life. So far i have read 34 books about him. Now i would love to have his baseball card. Since i cannot find him in card packs i will wait until i move back to California. I love his books and his team mates too. He is very interesting and fun to learn about. I love using my time to learn about him live to be like him. I have been try7ing to be like him for 5 years now. I would love to find his card and my happiness will be complete.
