Dave & Adam’s “Leaders of The Pack” – Wild Card Weekend

The NFL postseason kicked off this past weekend, but for several reasons (rain in Cincinnati, cold in Minnesota, the Houston Texans) there wasn’t much offense in most of the Wild Card games. Regardless, let’s take a look at which player provided enough offense to earn Dave & Adam’s “Leaders of The Pack” for Wild Card Weekend.

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – 21 for 36, 210 yards, 2 touchdowns

The Packers spotted the Redskins 11 points before Rodgers and the Green Bay offense awoke from their slumber. He responded with a pair of second quarter touchdown passes to put the Pack in the lead. Now Rodgers will have to face an Arizona Cardinals team that beat him soundly 38-8 in Week 16.

Running Back: Fitzgerald Toussaint – Pittsburgh Steelers – 17 rushes, 58 yards; 4 receptions, 60 yards

With DeAngelo Williams out due to injury, Toussaint and Jordan Todman combined to carry the load out of the backfield for Pittsburgh. Toussaint caught two important passes on the Steelers’ final drive, including one for a first down on a third-and-two play, that ended with the game winning field goal. Those plays, however, were overshadowed by the two penalties committed by the Bengals that helped move the Steelers into field goal range.

Toussaint started the year on Steelers practice suqad, but was promoted to the active roster in November. He spent last season with Baltimore after signing as an undrafted free agent from Michigan. His college career was marred by a drunk driving arrest and a broken leg, after exploding for more than 1,000 yards in his sophomore season. He does not have an NFL trading card as of yet, but he did appear in a Michigan University set produced by Panini earlier this year.

Wide Receiver: Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs – 8 catches, 128 yards

Kelce and the Chiefs’ offense didn’t need to do much to beat the Texans on Saturday as Kansas City’s defense picked off Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer four times and Knile Davis returned the opening kick off for a touchdown. But the Chief’s first playoff win since 1994 was cemented by a steady offensive performance. The bulk of Kelce’s yards came after the catch as he racked up 73 YAC. The Chiefs now have the tall task of trying to beat the Patriots in New England in the AFC divisional round.

Kelce was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 draft. Look for his rookie card in select 2013 football products.
